Required Equipment
and Materials
Below is a list of
equipment that is required by all students who are
part of the SPMS Bands:

Material
Needed for 6th Grade Band Students
All 6th Grade
Band Students will go through a 6 - 9 week
theory training session. Students will
then be tested on the material they have
learned. Students who earn an 80% or above
will continue in the SPMS Band program and will
be mouthpiece tested for an instrument that the
student will be most successful on.
Students will then receive a list of approved
instruments and brands as well as information as
to where these instruments can be purchased.
6th grade students will need the following
theory book for the first 9 weeks of school:
Master Theory Book by Paul Yoder. This
book can be purchased at any of the music stores
in Columbia.

Material Needed for 7th & 8th Grade Band
Students
Students
who are in the 7th grade will need to have
the following book for class in addition to
the items below: Standards of
Excellence Book 2 by Bruce Pearson.

-Slide Grease
-Slide Cream (Trombones)
-Spray Bottle (Trombones) |

-Vandoren Reeds:
Strenghth 3 -Students must have 5 good
reeds at all times.
-Rovner Ligature
-Cork Grease
-Neckstrap for Saxophones

-Drum Sticks
-Mallets
